This was the final series for my Photography 3 class at UTS, shot on medium format film using a Bronica SQA.
TIN CITY is a squatter community nestled amongst the rolling sand dunes of Stockton Beach, Newcastle, Australia. Stockton beach is one of the largest deposits of sand on the east coast of Australia, and Tin City is only accessible by 4wd. The residents eke out a living in this beautiful but harsh environment which offers the potential to completely bury each shack in a matter of hours. Some residents have been here for multiple decades, whilst other shacks have been passed down among family members, yet with changing laws and pressure from both National Parks and the traditional Aboriginal land owners the future of Tin City now hangs in limbo.
